Annual Convention 18 May 2013
This was the 44th annual convention of the Federation of South Wales Philatelic Societies and the 21st at the Princess Royal Theatre, Port Talbot. Sadly, because of lack of demand for the postcard from the 2012 Convention, there was no special postcard this time. Also the number of entries in the senior competition was down to five but he standard was high. The entry that was judged to be best in show was on the subject of gliding. The winner, Rolf Scharning, is shown here receiving his awards from the Mayor of Port Talbot, Mrs Marian Lewis. The junior competition had eight entries from Haverfordwest and five from Newport. They were of a consistently high standard, with Haverfordwest just pipping Newport in both the primary and secondary schools classes.
Annual Convention 19 May 2012
This was the 20th occasion on which the Federation of South Wales Philatelic Societies had organised its annual convention at the Princess Royal Theatre, Port Talbot. The Mayor of Neath Port Talbot, opened the event. As well as dealers, the annual competition attracted entries from senior members of the Swansea and Newport clubs. It was disappointing that more clubs did not enter. Neil Jones' entry in the general class was awarded best in show award. Other winners were Bev Davies of Newport (thematic), Ken Reeves of Swansea (aerophilately) and Rolf Scharning of Swansea (postal history).
It was encouraging to see nine entries in the junior class, with Molly Ann Clibbert of Newport & Gwent winning the secondary schools class with a display on the Olympic Games and Sophie Drake of Haverfordwest triumphing in the primary schools class with her entry on the Royal Family.
Sounvenir Postcard - 2012
